Aston Transitional Care is proud to announce the recent sponsorship of Wolverhampton boxer, Conah Walker, as he prepares for an IBF World Championship Fight.
Local lad, 30, who said, “I walked into the gym at 18 and never turned back,” is preparing for an IBF world championship fight later this year.
About Conah Walker
Walker started his career at 18 at Merridale ABA Boxing Club in Pennfields, Wolverhampton, under the wing of head coach and “massive influence”, Mick Smith.
Wolverhampton’s welterweight is currently training for a mandatory fight in preparation for an IBF world championship title later this year.
Meeting with his newest sponsor, Walker reflected on how the support of his community is “humbling,” saying it gives him the freedom to train hard and aim high for world titles.
As a boxing dark horse, Walker shared how he plans to celebrate an IBF world championship victory:
“I’ve been a massive underdog in every single one of my title fights,”
“I just keep beating the odds!”
“We’ll have a big party”, said Walker, “We’ll get everyone who’s been a part of it from the start and who’s part of it now and raise a glass… or ten.”
Walker is the current IBF Intercontinental and WBA International Champion, and former British, Commonwealth, and Midlands area champion.
Aston Transitional Care Community Focus
Aston Transitional Care pushes the boundaries of care beyond the business and into the local community. The decision to support Walker’s career was described by Mahesh Mehan, Director of Aston Transitional Care, as a great joint venture to support local talent. He hopes that other companies will follow suit.
“It’s about putting something back into the local community,”
“When he does win, he’s from Wolverhampton. It will be such an achievement for himself and the company to be part of someone who actually won a world title,” said Mehan.
Mehan has followed Walker’s career for half a decade through a series of mutual friends and personal connections. He comments on his personal interest in boxing, which he shares with his son, who trains at the same gym Walker started at.
There, Mehan saw firsthand the hard work boxers go through, let alone the financial commitment. He expressed Aston Transitional Care’s utmost support, along with that of his family.
“We will be rooting all the way,” said Mehan,
“Aston [Transitional Care] has come a long way, and will take opportunities to support people from Wolverhampton”.
